As part of the Data Science Institute, Jay works at the interface of modern deep learning and fundamental physics. He is based at CERN, where he works primarily on precision measurements of the Higgs boson’s properties and interactions with other fundamental particles. During his PhD, he developed a type of neural simulation-based inference technique where thousands of neural networks work together to precisely measure the total decay width of the Higgs boson, using data from the ATLAS experiment at CERN. At UW-Madison, he plans to continue developing state-of-the-art data analysis tools and techniques to accelerate the discovery potential of fundamental physics experiments.
