Project summary

“Our office is a small team focused on building collaborations across government, NGOs, and the public to spur action in sustainability and clean energy. When it came time to analyze our outreach data and look for trends and insights, the Data Science Institute were the ones who answered the call. We are so very grateful for their time, compassion, and curiosity with our project. They delivered some stellar insights, and my only regret is that we didn’t involve them sooner!”
—Caity Carmody, Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy, UW–Madison

The Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy (OSCE) leads efforts in advancing sustainability and clean energy across Wisconsin. Through outreach and engagement activities, they collect data to inform the development of the state’s comprehensive climate action plan. The Data Science Institute led statistical analysis, data harmonization, and reproducible research efforts, transforming qualitative survey feedback into structured, analyzable data and meaningful insights.

Using reproducible workflows, the project ensured transparency, consistency, and scalability in data processing and analysis. Statistical techniques were applied to identify key themes, trends, and regional priorities in sustainability and clean energy adoption. The resulting analytical framework provided evidence-based insights and guidelines to inform state-level policy and focused climate initiatives.
