DSI and its faculty and staff affiliates welcomed new RISE-AI faculty to campus on October 17.

The Data Science Institute recently hosted a reception welcoming new RISE-AI faculty to UW–Madison. More than 35 of these new faculty began working in departments across campus this fall, and this event provided them with an opportunity to meet and identify shared research interests with DSI’s faculty and staff affiliates.

At the event, DSI Director Kyle Cranmer introduced the new faculty to the RISE-AI Collaboration HQ, which will link new RISE faculty with existing campus networks advancing scholarship in the field of artificial intelligence. DSI assumed responsibility for this campus-wide effort earlier this fall.

“Realizing the full potential of the RISE initiative requires connecting our new colleagues with UW’s established research community,” says Cranmer. “This event, which brought new RISE-AI faculty together with DSI’s extensive network of affiliated faculty and staff, was a great step in that direction.”

The RISE-AI Collaboration HQ is in the process of launching a process for UW–Madison faculty and staff to propose campus events, such as seminars and symposia, that will spark collaboration and incubate promising AI-related research ideas from across campus. More information will be available at the RISE Summit on November 17.
