Jason Lo

Jason Lo is a data scientist and AI engineer who transitioned from cognitive neuroscience to applied artificial intelligence. He began his career studying how children learn to read and the brain mechanisms behind dyslexia. By using brain imaging techniques like EEG and fMRI, he helped map how the brain develops the ability to read. Additionally, during his postdoctoral research, he used computational methods to simulate this learning process.

Today at DSI, Jason applies his background in scientific research to build practical machine learning systems across diverse fields like the humanities, agriculture, and geoscience. He focuses on cutting through the noise in complex data to find clear, useful patterns. A core part of his current work involves using large language models to solve real-world problems. For example, he built a system that translates dense agricultural data into clear recommendations for farmers.

Beyond research, Jason leads technical projects like an enterprise-scale AI search platform that helps university teams find faculty experts. Through all his work, Jason favors a minimalist approach. He aims to build lean and well-documented AI systems that bridge the gap between academic research and real-world application.
